My assistant photographer and I travelled over to France on the ‘Le Shuttle’ from Folkestone to Calais, it only took us 35 minutes and was very straight forward. It felt reassuring to know all of our photography equipment was safe in our car and that we had ample space to carry everything we needed.
We had to ensure we had a log of all of our equipment and their receipts for customs, so I had this organised in a folder for our trip ready to show. The other option is to purchase a CARNET.
Driving on the other side of the road was strange at first, I am glad we had each other to gently remind each other to keep on the correct side of the road. We soon got use to it and followed Sat Nav all the way to our Air B’n’N in Yvelines, which was local to the wedding venue.
We decided to travel two days before the wedding to ensure we were there with plenty of time, just incase of any delays and to ensure we were very well refreshed for the Wedding.
Weddings are long days and require maximum attention to detail, highest form of creativity, energy, socialising, organising, and concentration all day so I always take preparation before a wedding seriously.
It also ensures there is time to check and recharge camera batteries, clean lenses, format memory cards, check camera settings.
As we were there two days before the wedding, the day before the wedding enabled us to go both the wedding ceremony and wedding reception venues. I was able to get drone footage of the wedding reception and we met the Mayor at the town hall where the wedding ceremony was to take place. They call the town halls ‘Mairie’ and we had the privilege of meeting the Mayor and going to the ‘Mairie De Behoust’.
On the day of the wedding the weather predictions were for rain, so it was great that we were able to get the drone and other photography footage of the venues the day before. However, although predicted rain, on the day of the wedding we were all blessed, a very light splatter came and went, not interrupting the day in anyway and everyone was able to enjoy the outdoor garden activities.
A mixture of French and English games enjoyed by both children and adults. At times, getting very competitive. Great fun was being had by all, with animations taking place throughout too, champagne being served, beers a plenty and many a tasty canapé being enjoyed too.
The whole day and experience was such a privilege to be part of.
Romantic, timeless, elegant, fun, charming, animated, beautiful and wonderful are just some of the words I can think of to describe this glorious September wedding in Yvelines, France.
From the moments of the bride and groom getting ready, to the ceremony and signing of the register, confetti moments, the amazing reception, the great speeches and animations, right through to the fantastic Party; there was an atmosphere of exuberant joy, love, fun, reunion and new unions, romance and family.
